ELCA Deacon Nick Bates is the director of Hunger Network in Ohio (HNO) and will be our guest preacher Sunday, November 16th. He will also be available between services and following 10:00 worship for anyone that would like to learn more about advocacy around the Statehouse and recent SNAP challenges.
Since 2004, Deacon Nick Bates has worked in the non-profit advocacy and organizing sector on issues related to state budget, anti-poverty, and other public policy issues. Nick graduated from Capital University Law School and Trinity Lutheran Seminary in 2012.
Nick serves as a Deacon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) called to ministries of advocacy and social justice. He serves on various committees and boards within the faith and secular community. In 2023, he was elected to the Greater Hilltop Area Commission in Columbus – a regional advisory board to Columbus City Council where he chairs the zoning committee. Deacon Bates has lived in the hilltop neighborhood since 2007 with his wife Katie and two children aged 15 and 10.
