During worship at 10am on Sunday, June 1, we are blessed to dedicate the new sanctuary round window to the glory of the Holy Trinity — the Father and the Son + and the Holy Spirit, whose name serves as the motif for the piece.  The Round Window Arts Team of Chris Burton, Chris Grabenstatter, Pat Gladman, Kathy Higbee and Pastor Steve collaborated on the design with the same artist who designed the east wall glass mosaic, Scott Parsons of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Sensing an opportunity with this project to commend the Holy Trinity’s creative, loving and eternal care, the family of Elizabeth and Erik Yassenoff’s son Jacob Dale initiated funding for the project in memory of his passing in childbirth on July 19, 2016.  That funding has since been supplemented by additional gifts to the Liturgical Arts and Memorial Funds and finally completed with a major gift as part of the 2023 Property Project Capital Campaign.

In terms of the design of the artwork, the team and artist envisioned a trifocal work. Rather than a single image for all to see in the same way, the piece invites each person to reflect on their own interpretation of our triune God:

  • When viewed with God the Father in mind, the one window may elicit an impression of the creation, order emerging from chaos or the world hovering in space.
  • When viewed with God the Son in mind, the one window may elicit the impression of a shepherd cradling a lamb or perhaps even a baby child.
  • When viewed with God the Spirit in mind, the one window may elicit the impression of God’s swirling movement and power through the whole piece.

Perhaps you see something entirely different as you ponder the wonder and mystery of God — seen and unseen — three-in-one of creation, redemption and sanctification.

With thanks to God for the faithful generosity of all who have contributed to the project through the years, we pray that the dynamic nature in the artistic design of this window will make it an especially compelling enhancement to our sanctuary and worship ministry for decades to come.
