July is Disability Pride month and Holy Trinity along with Red Oak Family Foundation sponsored a Diversability zone for the Upper Arlington Fourth of July Parade.  Participants in the parade were encouraged to reduce the volume of their entry in the parade by 50%.  The reduced volume is important to people with autism and other neurological conditions.

People living with disabilities are very diverse as illustrated by the Disability Pride Flag.

  • The faded black background honors people with disabilities who have lost their lives due to systemic neglect, violence, or lack of access to proper care.
  • The diagonal stripe represents how people living with disabilities cut across all communities, identities, and experiences.
  • The design is a powerful example of how accessibility and representation can go hand in hand.

The flag is a good reminder that there is always more to learn under the surface and that we should always stay curious and delve deeper!  Remember that all are welcome at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
