Jesus The Word
A video recording of today’s Daily Dose can be found at https://youtu.be/jgD_wyVdSkI
Good morning. Today is Friday, December 31st and it’s time for our Daily Dose of Good News.
The book of John starts with these very important verses. “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” John the Baptist was excited about meeting Jesus. He told everybody who would listen that Jesus was coming. Let’s listen to what John told people about Jesus as we read “Jesus the Word” in the Spark Story Bible (pages 240-241) or in John 1:10-18.
10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to what was his own,[a] and his own people did not accept him. 12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son,[b] full of grace and truth. 15 (John testified to him and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he was before me.’”) 16 From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17 The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son,[c] who is close to the Father’s heart,[d] who has made him known.
John the Baptist said that Jesus would come to bring grace and truth. Grace means God’s love and forgiveness. When we mess up we are forgiven! God sent Jesus to give us all second chances, third chances, fourth chances, and as many chances as we need! Grace and truth are the most important gifts God has given us.
This Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany at Holy Trinity, we have been celebrating with three words- LOOK, BEHOLD, SHINE. (pointing to eyes) We looked and waited for Jesus to be born. (holding hands over heart) We behold the wonder of Jesus’ birth at Christmas. (holding arms out) God’s light shines at Epiphany. Look, Behold, Shine!
I have some more photos to share with you where we behold God’s beauty and love. I hope you’ll notice all of God’s creation and love that He has given to us. We are so blessed to be loved by God.
Enjoy this Christmas and Epiphany season as you behold God’s wonder and thank Him for the gifts of grace and truth.
Please pray with me. Thank you, God, for Jesus. He helps us to know you! Thank you for all of your love, your grace, and your truth. AMEN.
I hope you have a wonderful day and a Happy New Year!
