Now God did not subject the coming world, about which we are speaking, to angels.
But someone has testified somewhere,
“What are human beings that you are mindful of them,
or mortals, that you care for them?
You have made them for a little while lower than the angels;
you have crowned them with glory and honor,
subjecting all things under their feet.”
Now in subjecting all things to them, God left nothing outside their control. As it is, we do not yet see everything in subjection to them, but we do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. (Hebrews 2:5-9)
Who are We that God is Mindful of Us
We’re going to look toward the heavens For our good news today.
For God has made us for a while
You and me
A little lower than the angels of the sky,
While still crowning us with glory and honor
Subjecting to us all things under our feet.
A little lower than angels.
This morning while checking the news online I ran across the video of the sky
Under which God has made us a little lower than angels.
A sky worthy of all the glory and honor we can lavish on our creator God
The sharpest, most detailed picture ever
Of the Andromeda Galaxy and all the stars that reside in it — 100 million stars!
And light from those stars is blocking our view
Of the billions of other starts that reside beyond them.
Awe-inspiring to be sure.
Here’s a still picture of the stars
Taken from the video that I streamed with the devotion online.
There first picture is taken from afar; the second is zoomed in:
And what’s even more awe-some than that?!
The God who cares enough to make each and every one of those countless stars
Cares enough to create you … and me …
And to be so mindful of us … to care for us and our individual well-being,
That God, for a time, becomes one among us …
A little lower than angels God’s very self in Christ Jesus our Lord.
All to share life and death on behalf of each one of us
And then reveal the glory and honor that crowns him still…
The same glory and honor that crowns us as well
Once we are now more little lower than angels ourselves
Taking our position again with the angels … beyond the stars. Amen
