Then Peter began to speak to them: “I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” (Acts 10:34-43)
All, as in All
This passage which serves as the first lesson on Easter every year …
A great indicator for the impact of the resurrection:
In the same way that, by grace, God shows no partiality
In air for all to breath
In water for all to drink
In plant and animals for all to eat,
Neither too, does God show any partiality
In the gate to heaven that Jesus has opened by the resurrection.
Life and salvation are open to all who accept it.
And, as much as that means for our future after death,
So too, it has a great impact on our lives yet today.
For now matter what challenges or limitations or disappointments
That you may be experiencing now …
Discrimination on the basis of sex or age or race or even creed
Isolation within the pandemic or
Any other circumstance of depression and anxiety,
Jesus’ resurrection has revealed life and salvation for you.
And when the grace of God in Christ Jesus our Lord
Engages you like that,
You can’t help but engage others with the same,
As grace begets grace begets grace.
Believing that each of us is wholly accepted and affirmed
By God through Christ Jesus,
We treat others whom God through Christ Jesus
Wholly accepts and affirms as well.
That’s the mission to which were are called in our baptism of grace —
To engaged the world with grace … all the world
Family and friends
Colleagues and clients
Pupils and patients
Strangers and skeptics
Oppressed and oppressors.
I truly understand that God shows now partiality…
All who believe are welcomed and valued and affirmed and uplifted.
All … as in all.
