Jesus said … “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” (John 20:21)
Since Holy Trinity Lutheran Church was chartered on March 22, 1942, Jesus has been seeking children of God with the gift of life wherever they are and then sending them out to share that life with others. As part of our 75th Anniversary Celebration, we’ll have the privilege of hearing from former pastors, interns, and sons and daughters of the congregation who will be preaching on the Sundays in Lent with opportunity for conversation and hospitality between services. Here is the slate of people who will be celebrating Jesus’ ministry among us:
March 5: Pastor Glenn Zorb (Associate Pastor from 1979-1983)
March 12: Pastor Mike Sourwine (Intern from 2006-2008)
March 19: Deacon Diane Schwiger-Alexander (Staff member early 1990’s)
March 26: Pastor Jonathan Doolittle (Son of the congregation ordained in 1994) bio below
April 2: Pastor Dave Markowich (Pastor from 1985-2000)
Pastor Deb Byrum (Daughter of the congregation ordained in 1992)
Pastor Jonathan Doolittle grew up in faith at Holy Trinity. His formative years were spent exploring the various hiding places in the church, and learning about our loving God from many great examples of the faith found at Holy Trinity. Youth group in the 1980’s included many trips and musicals that were a great way to learn and experience living faithfully. During his high school years he served as head acolyte at Holy Trinity and on the Ohio Synod youth committee as well. He also worked many summers at Camp Mowana.
Education took him first to Wittenberg University were he earned, or was awarded, his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. After a few years in Rochester, New York, he headed to Chicago where study resulted in his Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran School of Theology in 1994. He returned to continue studies and earn his Doctor of Ministry degree in Preaching from LSTC in 2009. It was at LSTC that he met his wife, Holly, who was also a student. She has a Master of Arts degree in pastoral care and counseling as well as a social work Masters degree from the University of Chicago.
Jonathan’s first call in 1994 was to First Lutheran in Redlands, CA where he served as associate pastor for four years. He has been serving Clairemont Lutheran Church since 1998 and as Senior Pastor since 2006. Jonathan and wife Holly were married in 1996 and have three children: Cole, 17; Jonah, 14; and Grace, 10. Together they spend many hours at the beach and attending soccer, volleyball and other youth sports. Pastor Jon enjoys playing golf, continuing to root for The Ohio State University Buckeyes (and forcing his children to as well), and good food.
