22nd Street Cookies has started with four youth employees, and they are thriving! Utilizing a grant from Nationwide Children’s Hospital, 22nd Street Cookies is a pilot program of First English Lutheran Church that aims to provide inner-city youth with marketable skills and a business plan as a means out of poverty. The teens are producing frozen cookie dough that can be sold to individuals for personal use and organizations for fundraising. Limited batches of cookie dough are being made at the current time. Holy Trinity is serving as the test market for this first offering to see how it goes and work out any kinks. Orders for frozen cookie dough, 4 different kinds, will be taken on Sunday, October 13th. Suggested donation is $12/one lb. tub. Delivery will be in just a few weeks. Once we know the total quantity purchased, Becky will communicate the date. The cookie varieties are:
- Chocolate chip
- Cranberry, white chocolate oatmeal
- Chocolate peanut butter
We are also looking for volunteers to help with tutoring, mentoring, sharing of talents, fundraising, marketing, and of course, making cookie dough. Typical days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 3:30pm – 5:30ish as well as Saturdays from 9am – 12noon. Please see Becky Warnement for more information.
