Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come into his presence with singing.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, bless his name.
For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
All generations is a long time.
I was reminded as much this week
As I ran across an article about Greenland sharks
Which, while especially homely, are thought to live 300-500 years.
And that’s nothing compared to the National Geographic documentary
I watched the other night,
Noting the lifespan of those amazing organisms
between 800 and 1500 years!
Talk about generations!?!
And the Lord has been faithful throughout.
Through every circumstance known under the sun…
Through the extraordinary circumstances we are enduring in the world right now…
Through every circumstance yet to come…
The Lord is faithful to all generations.
Jesus reign in the generation of resurrection is our assurance of that.
So let the joyful noise begin.
Perhaps the greatest attribute of the music of God’s people.
While the excellence and beauty of our music ministries
Is a great give to us and sweet delight to our God,
The first criterion of sounds suitable for the worship of God is joy.
The kind unabashed, spontaneous, exuberant joy
That springs from all recipients of God’s faithfulness to all generations,
regardless of musical training!?!.
So even with all that is going on these days
With a stay at home advisory by the Franklin County Board of health
Due to untold strain on more and more people infected with the Covid virus
And the great service and sacrifice of those who are caring for them…
For the instability the pandemic is stoking
in our schools and business and civic communities
The Lord is with us and will see us through
Just has God has done for generation to generation to generation to generation.
What’s your joyful noise today!
