The theme for our Estimate of Giving Ministry this year is taken from the marks and practices by which Paul understands God to transform the bodies of Jesus’ followers, into a living sacrifice to God through Christ Jesus our Lord:
Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints …
Martin Luther teaches God’s view of those receiving the Holy Spirit at baptism as simultaneously sinner and saint. In that light our regular, proportionate offerings to God are contributions to the sinner-saints who tend the mission of Christ through the church, the sinner-saintsin need locally and around the globe, and the sinner-saintwho makes the offering as a reminder that all we have is entrusted to us by God from the start: us!
In the following weeks, we invite you to prayerfully consider how God is leading you to support our ministry together at Holy Trinity through your offering. On Sunday, February 23, we will celebrate and consecrate Estimate of Giving Cards that are submitted by that time. Council will present a Revised 2020 Ministry Spending Plan in April that matches expenses to offerings anticipated by your Estimates of Giving.
Be assured that God will be at work transforming you into a living sacrifice, in part, through your contribution to the needs of the saints.
