Winter has finally arrived and what an opportunity to relax by the fire and enjoy a book! This month’s selection, “Dead Wake,” was reviewed by Francine Buban and she has included her thoughts here. This book is available at your community library. Other intriguing books can be found in your church library-check it out!
If you read non-fiction and are a fan of “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown, you also might enjoy “Dead Wake” by Erik Larson. To me, this well-researched (foot-notes and chapter-notes) book reveals the deception of British Intelligence as a means to draw the United States into World War I by declaring war on Germany and becoming an ally of the English and French. The event that ended America’s neutrality was the sinking of the liner, Lusitania*. (*The Lusitania was one of the ships “called off” in the rescue of survivors of the Titanic.)
