Sunday at worship we’ll commission 15 high school students and 5 adults for their weeklong adventure in faith around the ELCA National Youth Gathering in Detroit. On their way to “Rising Up Together” with nearly 30,000 high school students across the country, the group will spend a day in service at Old Woman Creek Estuary on Lake Erie where former Holy Trinity Music Director, Tim Fields, volunteers. They’ll spend another day boating on the lake, followed by a visit to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village before descending on Ford Field Wednesday evening for the first Mass Gathering. While in Detroit, group will spend
- one day delving into the story of God who gathers us together as the church,
- one day deepening its understanding of Christian community through the arts, games, and other interactive exercises, and
- one day serving Detroit in the name of the gospel through projects that include neighborhood renewal, food pantry services and outreach to children.
The group gives thanks to God for the way you have raised up together in your support of their experience next week, not the least of which has been $1100+ donated for our support toward the Gathering’s Diapers for Detroiters effort to resupply community diaper banks throughout the city. They will appreciate your prayers for them while they are away even as they commit themselves to praying for you as well. You can follow the group’s activity on the following social media outlets:
