In 2016, the YWCA of Columbus will celebrate its 31st class of Women of Achievement, an event honoring a select group of Columbus women who have made extraordinary contributions to their families, workplaces, and communities. This year’s outstanding honorees include Kathleen Murphy, Founder and President Emeritus of MurphyEpson (as well as member of Holy Trinity). The event will be held on April 6 from 11:30am-1:00pm in the Battelle Grand Ballroom of the Columbus Convention Center. For more information, please go to http://ywcac.convio.net/
Twice in Psalm 24, the gates are commanded to lift up their heads. Why? So that the King of Glory may come in. During this Advent season, we are reminded of just who it was who came to earth, born of a woman in a lowly stable. He is the King of Glory! He is the one we honor and proclaim! He is the one due our allegiance and our service. Open your gates! Let the King of Glory come in! For more information on stewardship, please contact Max Buban.

On behalf of Church Council, I want to thank the 130+ members of Holy Trinity, from almost 90 households, who participated in at least one of our three Congregation Forums on the matter of same gender marriage. Your faithful expressions of thoughts and beliefs will be extremely helpful to Council in discerning what God is calling us to do here at Holy Trinity. Recognizing that all three Forums were scheduled over a four-day period, it is likely not everyone was able to attend one. So, I would like to offer the opportunity, and encourage anyone who would like to express their thoughts and beliefs to contact me, or any Council member, on or before December 9, so that Council might incorporate these further thoughts into its discussion at our next meeting. May God continue to bless Holy Trinity.
Roy Truemper, Church Council President
Thanksgiving is a time that causes nearly everyone, including unbelievers, to count their blessings. While all of us are grateful for food, clothing, shelter, and good health along with family and loyal friends, only those who have faith in the Son of God can be truly thankful for the greatest blessing of all – the forgiveness of sins and the hope of eternal life. “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift” (2 Corinthians 9:15)! Many thanks to everyone that serves at Holy Trinity on Sundays and other times to prepare for worship. Our experience is richer because of you! While we recognize that some people appreciate being scheduled to serve at regular intervals that they can plan on, we also acknowledge some people have weekly schedules that are far less predictable. Even so, they have interest in serving when available. Holy Trinity continues to implement new resources to help match people’s gifts and interests with their availability. One such tool being introduced this week is called Walk-up Worship Help. Each week, as you arrive for worship, there will be a basket displaying various ribbons that identify opportunities for you to help serve. Whether it’s as a Communion Assistant (stoles have been used for this in the past), Usher, Acolyte, or something else, you are invited to help during the worship service as you’re able. A brief description with key tips corresponds to each opportunity so you can feel confident in serving, even if you’ve never done so in that capacity before. Please contact Laura Hudson for more information about Walk-up Worship Help or how to schedule your service times online using Signup Genius .
It’s that time of year to start rehearsals for the Christmas Pageant. Rehearsals will be on Sunday evenings (6:00-6:45) beginning this Sunday, November 15, as well as Thursdays from 6:00-6:25 after dinner at church. Please contact Joshua Brodbeck if your child plans on participating. This year’s pageant will take place on Sunday, December 13 during the 10:30 worship service.
Thanksgiving is a culmination of all the labor of the preceding year – the tilling of the soil, the planting of the seed, the rain and sunshine nourishing the crop, and then the harvest! The same principle of hard work followed by a reward holds true in the spiritual realm. “Let us not become weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9). “For the Lord your God will bless you in all your harvest and in all the work of your hands, and your joy will be complete” (Deuteronomy 16:15b). Welcome to my running online dialog on matters of our life together in faith community at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church—where the grace of Christ Jesus our Lord engages each of us and, in turn, sends us out to engage others with that grace as well. I look forward to learning and growing together.
